WAUKESHA 鈥 With two clocks, there鈥檚 never a wrong time to get a free hamburger from George Webb Restaurants.
And that is exactly what鈥檚 going to happen now that the Milwaukee Brewers have won 12 straight, following a 12-5 drubbing of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday.
鈥淭HEY DID IT! 12 STRAIGHT WINS! You know what that means? FREE GEORGE WEBB BURGERS are coming!,鈥 the restaurant announced on social media shortly after Wednesday鈥檚 game. 鈥淲e're buzzing with excitement and working hard to prepare. Please note: Burgers will NOT be ready right away. A special giveaway date will be announced tomorrow with all the delicious details! Stay tuned and keep cheering on the Crew!鈥
A George Webb representative could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.
According to the restaurant鈥檚 website, in the 1940s, George Webb, the founder of the chain that now encompasses 21 restaurants around southeastern Wisconsin, predicted 12 straight wins by the local nine. 鈥淗e didn鈥檛 promise free burgers 鈥 but the fans did the rest,鈥 the site said.
There have been two prior burger giveaways after the Brewers won 12 in a row. In 1987, when Team Streak got off to a 13-0 start, the restaurant chain gave out over 168,000 free burgers.
In 2018, after the Brew Crew won 12 straight at the end of the regular season and into the playoffs, Webb鈥檚 stepped up to the plate, filling it with some 90,000 burgers and another 100,000 vouchers given away, according to the company.
In a Wednesday update to its website, the restaurant said:
鈥淭oday, all eyes are on the Brewers as they take the field with a shot at win number 12. The stakes? Bragging rights, baseball history 鈥 and burgers. Lots and lots of burgers.鈥
