WAUKESHA 鈥 George Webb restaurants will be a very busy place Wednesday as the burger chain will be giving away free hamburgers to celebrate the Milwaukee Brewers鈥 12-game win streak.
The restaurant announced Thursday that the giveaway will take place 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at its 23 locations around Wisconsin.
鈥淗ungry fans are welcome to stop by any location for a free, juicy burger and some camaraderie with fellow baseball fans. Vouchers will be available starting this Friday for pick up in our locations for those who want to savor the moment and enjoy a delicious George Webb hamburger at a later date. A limited menu will also be available on the giveaway day with great deals on extra burgers, fries, and drinks,鈥 according to an announcement posted on the restaurant鈥檚 website.
The giveaway is rooted in the chain鈥檚 long-standing prediction, when founder George Webb predicted in the 1940s the then- minor-league Milwaukee Brewers would win 12 games in a row. The prediction was carried into the major league era, 鈥渇irst the Braves and later the Brewers 鈥 and famously said the city deserved a free burger if it ever happened. He didn鈥檛 promise it outright 鈥 but here in Milwaukee, promises are kept,鈥 the restaurant鈥檚 website said.
There have been two prior burger giveaways after the Brewers won 12 in a row. In 1987, when Team Streak got off to a 13-0 start, the restaurant chain gave out over 168,000 free burgers.
In 2018, after the Brew Crew won 12 straight at the end of the regular season and into the playoffs, Webb鈥檚 stepped up to the plate, filling it with some 90,000 burgers and another 100,000 vouchers given away, according to the company.
