BROOKFIELD 鈥 The waiting was the hard part for a man who went to a George Webb restaurant on Wednesday, apparently expecting a free hamburger even before the Milwaukee Brewers had their historic 12th consecutive win in the books.

The metro area has been abuzz with burger talk 鈥 the ground steaks couldn鈥檛 be higher 鈥 given George Webb Restaurants鈥 long-standing prediction that the Brewers will win 12 games in a row, which has prompted two large-scale burger giveaways after the team accomplished the feat in 1987 and 2018.

Last month, fans got their hopes up as the Brewers won 11 in a row, but failed to 鈥渕eat鈥 the challenge of winning 12 straight games. But the hottest team in baseball accomplished the feat Wednesday afternoon, beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-5, coincidentally.

The restaurant chain announced Thursday that the giveaway will take place 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at its 23 locations around Wisconsin, although vouchers will be available starting Friday.

However, one man at the Brookfield George Webb at Bluemound and Janacek roads apparently thought he鈥檇 beat the rush and went into the restaurant Wednesday. He then called 911 after saying he was pushed out by staff there.

According to the 911 call, the man called for emergency help mid-afternoon Wednesday.

鈥淎re George Webbs supposed to be giving away free hamburgers today if the Brewers win?鈥 the man asked a dispatcher.

鈥淪ir, are you having an emergency?鈥 the dispatcher asked.

鈥淵eah. It鈥檚 an emergency because George Webb people just pushed me out,鈥 the man replied.

After getting the man鈥檚 name, the dispatcher asked him if he wanted an officer to come by and speak with him.

鈥淵eah because we supposed to get free hamburgers if the Brewers win; they winning 12-5,鈥 he replied.

鈥淥K. All right. I will have an officer come over and speak with you sir. I just to make sure you know they Brewers game is not over yet so that鈥檚 probably why they are not giving out free burgers,鈥 the dispatcher said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 only the 8th inning right now but I will have an officer come and meet with you, OK?鈥

鈥淭hat鈥檚 fine,鈥 the man said.

But the man was gone by the time police arrived, so officers did not get the chance to have contact with him, Town of Brookfield Police Chief Chris Perket said.

He added a concern over a free hamburger is 鈥渁bsolutely not鈥 a proper use of 911.

A Town of Brookfield police email said, 鈥淭he subject was not disorderly and was just concerned about his free burger.鈥

A George Webb spokesman did not return a phone message seeking comment on the matter.

But the chain, in making the giveaway announcement on Thursday, made it clear those with a hankerin鈥 won鈥檛 necessarily have to wait until Wednesday for a deal that more than cuts the mustard.

鈥淗ungry fans are welcome to stop by any location for a free, juicy burger (Wednesday) and some camaraderie with fellow baseball fans. Vouchers will be available starting this Friday for pick up in our locations for those who want to savor the moment and enjoy a delicious George Webb hamburger at a later date. A limited menu will also be available on the giveaway day with听great deals on extra burgers, fries, and drinks,鈥 according to an announcement posted on the restaurant鈥檚 website.
